Upcoming Holiday Activities & St. Augustine's Winter Wonderland

Once again, the annual Winter Wonderland at St. Augustine amphitheater is on from now until January 6, 2013. The entire family can enjoy sleigh rides, a visit from Santa, train rides, bounce houses, and carnival games.

Now that the holiday season has arrived, it is time to enjoy the Winter Wonderland at the St. Augustine amphitheater, just down the street from Jacksonville and Nocatee. Everybody is in for a cool treat, with activities to enjoy for every member of the family. From November 23, 2012, up to January 6, 2013, the whole family will have a great time at the 6th Annual Winter Wonderland.

Fun Exciting Rides

This year’s event is once again hosted by the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division. Children of every age can enjoy the Ice Chute, RC Race Track, and Kid’s Room. Other available attractions this year include The Inflatable Obstacle Course, Blizzard Bounce House, Jr. Holly Jolly Trolley, Carnival Games, Face Painting, Sleigh Rides, S’mores Pit, and a nightly visit with Santa.

An added exciting event this year is actually the traditional Ice Slide that has been transformed into the new Ice Chute. This amazing 140 foot inner tube ride will send you flying across the amphitheater’s seating bowl underneath its canopy. With two entry points, every rider can choose a mild ride from the normal entrance, and a thrill-seeker ride from a higher point.

Nightly Snowfalls

Children of every age in Florida rarely experience snow. In response to that, children can enjoy a nightly snowfall falls at the Winter Wonderland at the St. Augustine amphitheater. Every night, the area is quickly transformed into a sparkly snow village. To enhance the cold experience, by Florida standards, Winter Wonderland guests (21 years and older) can enjoy a warm fire, and a tasty drink, in the Igloo Ski Lodge. For youngsters five years and younger, the event includes the kid’s room filled with many books, games and activities, suited for the younger crowd.

As the only Florida ice-skating rink that provides nightly snowfall, the Winter Wonderland at St. Augustine amphitheater allows skaters of every skill level to try out the rink. Skating cost $12, but includes a rental fee. Groups with 10 or more skaters can gain access for $10 for each person.

St. Augustine Sleigh Rides

St. Augustine sleigh rides are available for just $10 for each adult and five dollars for children that are ages 12 and under. Children two and under ride for free. From 6 PM to 10 PM every night through the season, weather permitting, visitors can take a horse-drawn carriage ride down the decorated trails that contain twinkly lights and holiday scenes.

Every year, the Winter Wonderland at St. Augustine’s amphitheater is a huge hit with the community. Living in Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Nocatee, Florida gives families the best of both worlds by enjoying the winter season in a summer paradise.
